According to classical Ayurvedic Texts, it is said,

an asava 'Older the better it is',

probably because an asava has an inherent attribute of continuous hydro-alcoholic extraction.

The Asava (fermented infusions) and Arishta (fermented decoctions) dosage forms are unique, highly potent dosage forms mentioned in Ayurvedic Classics such as Charak Samhita, Sushruta Samhita, Astanga Hridaya, Bhaisajya Ratnavali and also in the Ayurvedic Formulary of India.

The asava manufacturing process involves anaerobic fermentation to obtain certain level of self-generated alcohol (~10-12% v/v).

Dried flowers of Woodfordia fruticosa (Dhataki) are used to initiate fermentation. Slow hydro-alcoholic extraction at room temperature allows higher yielding extracts than water or alcohol alone. The alcohol thus generated also serves as a preservative.

According to classical Ayurvedic Texts, asava dosage form is supposed to have an indefinite shelf-life.

However, our products display a shelf-life of 10 years in order to satisfy the requirement of revised Rule 161-B vide G.S.R. No. 789 (E), of the Drug and Cosmetics Act (2016) of India.
